TURNS out some areas do cop it worse than others during Queensland storms, with new data revealing where the damage hot spots are around Brisbane.

Suncorp Insurance data obtained exclusively by The Courier Mail revealed the top ten worst post codes for storm damage from January to December 31, 2016 in terms of claims for rain, hail and wind damage.

Ipswich and surrounding suburbs in the 4305 postcode were the worst hit, with 221 claims last year, followed by the Western suburbs of Kenmore, Brookfield and Pullenvale at 215 claims.

Suburbs in the 4304 postcode including Booval, Ebbw Vale, Bundamba were third on the list with 210 claims, followed by 4306 (Amberley, Fernvale, Peak Crossing) at 160.

The full list

Ipswich and surrounds 221 claims

Kenmore, Brookfield, Pullenvale 215

Booval, Ebbw Vale, Bundamba 210

Amberley, Fernvale, Peak Crossing 160

Everton Park, Everton Hills, Mitchelton 123

Sunnybank, Sunnybank Hills 99

Jindalee, Mount Ommaney, Riverhills 91

Samford Valley, Highvale 91

Strathpine, Bray Park, Brendale 85

Sandgate, Brighton, Bracken Ridge 84

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Adam Blazak said Ipswich and the west tend to cop the brunt of the ferocious weather because the areas don’t have the “cooling effect of sea breezes.”

“They have warmer temperatures at ground level heating right up which is where a lot of the strength in a storm comes from.”

Living in storm prone or flood prone areas can cost more than just the repair bill, it can also raise insurance premiums.
