It is understood the roof of Coles collapsed with water gushing into the Morningside shopping centre.
Emergency services said a burst water main in the ceiling caused the roof fitting to give way about 2.30pm.
The water and power has since been switched off.
Paramedics were called but it is understood no one required treatment.
Energex has also been called.
A Coles spokeswoman said a sprinkler system burst at the Morningside store.
“The store will remain closed as the cause of the incident is assessed and will reopen as soon as the site has been cleaned up,” she said.
“We apologise to customers for any inconvenience.”
